An introduction to "HeavyHearts' A Candidate For Living"

On 9/15/05, i left my home of 9+ years, Boone, NC, for a life on the open road - with no plan, destination, and little certainty. I zig-zagged the country in my nearly-dead station wagon, appropriately dubbed "The Deathcab," thirsting for experience and filled with a desire to live life to the fullest.

I knew before leaving though, that 'my leaving', would affect many people near and dear to me. I therefore, felt it was necessary to share my experiences, in some way, to those i was leaving behind. Thus, I
created Heavyheart's - A Candidate for Living. The site was created and updated from the road at various locations throughout the country, with public computer and internet access (primarily libraries and universities) as i do not own a laptop myself. Keeping my old and new friends up to date on my thoughts, experiences, and whereabouts, via the website, was an extremely difficult task (of which i'm not completely done with just yet), but i realized, from all the positive responses i received, that it was just as important to "tell" my journey as it was to "take" my journey.

And I guess I was hopeful that by sharing my experiences with the world, friends and strangers alike would be inspired to make a change for the better in their own lives. But what i didn't realize was just how much of an impact I would actually have on people, and vice versa, and how much attention i would receive from it all. For most of the last year, i've been known as "the boy who is (or was) living in his car, and traveling the country" or for "getting kicked out of canada" or "naked at the grand canyon." I receive messages from people who come across the site still, congratulating me for "living the dream". It's been a truly remarkable experience. And even in it's current unfinished state, i can't help but be proud that the website has come to mean so much to so many people. Thank You All!

AND NOW, WITHOUT FURTHER ADIEU, MORE DESIGNS OF THE HEAVYHEARTS...
