A Candidate For Living is the story of my life on the road since 9/15/05. this website was created, and is updated, from the road, at various locations throughout the country where computers with free internet access are available - primarily public libraries and universities. i do not own a laptop. therefore, updates and design changes are infrequent but done as possible. this work in progress is funded primarily thru a credit card, and the kindness of friends and strangers alike via donations.
Required reading for riding the rails:--- The Road, by Jack London (a little-known, quintessential hobo book)--- To Build A Fire, short story by Jack London--- anything by Jack London--also. . .--- USA, by John Dos Passos (I've not actually read this one yet... quoted as "A book that comes as close as any I know to resembling that mythical beast, the Great American Novel . . . " - Alan Cheuse, NPR -- supposed to be quintessential read for going on the road).--Of course, there is always On The Road, but Kerouac was apparently a huge fan of London's, therefore it might be considered a sort of rip-off (London published The Road in 1907...)--Enjoy!
